London District Christian Secondary School heads to Sud Academy!

LDCSS staff and students have been faithfully supporting Sud Academy for a number of years. This year, a small team of 2 teachers (Christine Boer, Pete Minnesma) and 4 students (Avery Kelly, Esther Schuurman, Marijke Visser, Will Schmor) plan to travel to Kenya to spend a week at Sud Academy, getting to know the students better and growing spiritually as well.

See their blog for more information.

See their photo gallery as well.

Further assistance from Kellee Jacobs for our Form 4 (Grade 12) students

Kellee Jacobs has continued to have a great impact on the students at Sud Academy, thanks to the fundraising efforts of her Mom, Susan Jacobs. Many needed textbooks were purchased for our determined Form 4 students. As well, a classroom was renovated to improve their learning environment and most importantly, a "portable" added to the school property to serve as a science lab for practical chemistry lessons for all secondary students.

A video is worth a million words, see the links below!

A $100 donation from the Rotary Club of London West provided many needed textbooks for determined Sud Academy students. We express our thanks to Rotary Club of London for their generous donation,  Lucy Karanja, who gave a presentation to the Rotary Club, and Sister Rose Nyakio, who received the funds and helped deliver the 19 secondary level textbooks.

September to December 2009:

Kellee Jacobs implements some special projects at Sud Academy:

Kellee Jacobs volunteered at Sud Academy from November '08 to April '09. She "caught the bug" of international volunteer work, and returned in September '09 to implement some special projects at Sud Academy, including the installation of water tanks to provide clean drinking water. Further goals are to add a portable to expand the classroom space and add a laboratory for practical science lessons. She is a terrific communicator and a passionate teacher. The event raised more than $14100 for projects that Kellee Jacobs hopes to implement at Sud Academy. See the link to the video that Kellee made on her blog listed below.

June 14, 2009: Tapas and Jazz at the Black Trumpet restaurant

Many thanks to all who came out to our event.

Funds were raised for both Sud Academy and Community Living London. We enjoyed listening to Orlando Valencia and his band Pachanga, as well as the beautiful voices of Sudanese Women's choir and the talented Denise Pelley. Special thanks to Ann Hutchison for being our MC, and the staff at the Black trumpet deserve much appreciation for hosting us and providing delicious fare!
